Why the process takes time
3 months, 6 months, 9 months, or maybe even 20 months! Yes, depending on the complexity of your case, how much your teeth need to shift, how much space there is in your mouth, and other factors, your aligner treatment may take a very short time, or a bit longer.
We realize that most people prefer speed. But we never rush things, and we won’t compromise on the quality of your results and your long term dental health. Be patient. It’s all worth it in the end!
Why you should wear your aligners for two weeks
Everyone’s comfort level per aligner is different, and some teeth may feel “used to” a particular aligner before it has been worn for the full two weeks. So why is it that we recommend wearing each one for two weeks?
Health and Safety
Each aligner moves all or some of the teeth slightly, and the two-week time period allows for the gums and surrounding tissue to heal before it is time to move on to the next set. This keeps the movement safe for the roots of your teeth, and helps them get used to their new position.
Prevent Relapse
If teeth move to a new position too quickly, the dental tissues and bone will not have had time to fill in and heal from the movement, and the teeth will find it too easy to go back to the way they were.
However, if you wear your aligners the entire two weeks for 20-22 hours a day, your teeth and tissue are making solid and safe progress, and you can take your aligners out to eat and brush your teeth without fear of relapse.
What does this Mean for You?
Because each aligner is worn for two weeks and only includes a certain amount of movement, the movement is safe for the roots of your teeth.
If an aligner gets lost or broken, you can safely move ahead to the next one. Just make sure to wear that new one longer to give your teeth time to adjust.
We know you can’t wait for that new smile to be perfected – but follow the instructions, and your patience will be rewarded by a healthy and straight smile that lasts a lifetime!
